Bella Tucker is a 14 year old gymnast from Londonderry, New Hampshire who survived a near fatal infection which resulted in the amputation of all four of her limbs. On Easter Sunday, 2010, Bella came down with Streptococcus Pneumonia Sepsis with DIC(disseminated intravascular coagulation). Doctors gave little hope for this third graders survival, but after five days in a coma, she miraculously survived. Unfortunately, her survival was not without significant cost. The infection caused extensive tissue damage, and on April 27, 2010, Bella underwent the first of many operations to amputate her limbs. Bella spent the next seven months at Children's Hospital Boston, and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and is now on a long and difficult road to recovery as she learns to live life to its fullest without her limbs.
Fortunately, Bella has the love and support of her three older brothers and younger sister during these trying times. Thankfully, due to the love and support of Bella's community in Londonderry, New Hampshire, her house has been modified to accommodate Bella's needs and she is adjusting well to her new home and has returned to all of her friends at South Elementary School. Bella's mother, Selena, who is the primary insurance holder, must be by her side during Bella's extensive rehabilitation. Bella has been working closely with Next Step Orthotics and Prosthetics where she receives her new prosthetic legs and arms. Unfortunately, just as any child grows and needs new shoes, Bella will have to get new legs and arms. This is an expensive process, and her mothers insurance will only cover so much of the cost of Bella's recovery.
Please help Bella with her lifelong financial needs and spread her brave story. Her strength and determination is an inspiration to us all and her smile brightens the day of everyone she encounters.
