LONDONDERRY, N.H. — In her third-grade photographs, Bella Tucker looks at the world with the wonder of an 8-year-old child who sees a place of promise and possibility. Now, after a horrifying change on Easter Sunday, that world has become a confusing jumble of pain and complication.

Tucker, a popular classmate and eager gymnast, had all four limbs amputated following a catastrophic infection she developed April 4. Now, instead of tumbling across the gymnastics floor, she is using her nose to text her friends from Children’s Hospital in Boston. Instead of learning about triangles at the South Elementary School, she spent May 21 undergoing her seventh surgery.

South School Rallies to Raise Money for Bella Tucker

Students and staff members at South School continue to keep third grader Bella Tucker in their hearts and prayers this week, with several fundraisers planned to assist the 8-year-old, who was stricken with a rare form of pneumonia on Easter Sunday and is currently recovering from quadruple amputation surgery at Boston Children's Hospital.

Bella, a South School student member of the Phantom Gymnastics team, came down with a near fatal infection that caused her to spend five days in a coma at Boston Children's Hospital after being diagnosed with Streptococcus Pneumonia.

On Easter Sunday, 8-year-old Bella Tucker did not know that she would soon begin a battle for survival against a deadly infection. Bella, less than 24 hours later, was rushed to the hospital with a serious infection called Streptococcus Pneumoniae. During this almost month long ordeal, Bella would prove to be one of the strongest girls that I have ever heard about.
