LONDONDERRY — The recent Rocking for Bella Concert held at The Yard was a great success, raising $12,000 for the 9-year-old and her family.
All proceeds will be going to the Bella Tucker Fund. The performers and other people involved in the event did not charge for their time and talents.
Bella is a South Londonderry Elementary School fourth-grader who was hospitalized on Easter Sunday with a life-threatening illness that resulted in quadruple amputations. She is back at home after an extensive hospital stay and has returned to school.
"I have never met so many kind-hearted people in my life," said Rod McCarthy, one of the event organizers.
The event started off with Julie Devereaux from WROR, who introduced Bella's mom Selena Roarty to the audience. The crowd went silent to hear what Roarty had to say. Bella's family stepped on stage and thanked the performers and the crowd for coming out to support Rocking for Bella.
With tears in her eyes, Roarty said Bella is doing well, is happy in her new home and is making progress with rehabilitation.
V-2 was lined up to play on stage next and Roarty thanked McCarthy when she was leaving the stage.
"I would like to thank my family, especially my wife Julie, for all the time they put in to Rocking for Bella concert event," McCarthy said. "St. Peter's Church was our main sponsor and a very big part of making this happen."
The Yard Restaurant donated the venue and performers Will Makar and the Redline, V-2, Knurd Skwad, Brittany Nicole, Joey Pole, Julie Devereaux were just amazing, McCarthy added.
Corporate donations came from Poles Automotive, Presidio Networked Solutions, Stateline Graphics, Edgewater Technology, Maestri Consultants, Dr. Yankowskas, Spa Medique, Audio Video Technology and TNT Security.
"I'd also like to thank WMUR and Hudson Cable coming out to tape the show," McCarthy said.
Rocking for Bella continues its mission when Danvers Bank hosts a fundraiser for Bella in January. Plans are underway for next year and committee member Candy Bagley will head the next Rocking for Bella event. V-2 already has volunteered to play at the benefit. "
"Bella has a heart of a lion and continues to teach us all a lesson to enjoy your life, no matter what you are dealing with," McCarthy said.
